My next live appearance will be at Skoobs Theatre of Books in Montecasino on the evening of Wednesday 15 August where I will be doing some story-telling, reciting some poems and playing some music.
Stories, Poems, Music
This performance will include stories from my past, reflections on writing and glimpses into the motivations of the poems. On the night I will also spontaneously select poems from the book to read and discuss as well as play some musical versions of poems.
An author is all too often confined to the shelf and perhaps a launch. This way I can get out there and live the book as well as meet the people who are interested in it. Poetry is such a dynamic art it seems a pity to condemn it to the shelf. This is my way of setting it free, one show at a time.
Free Snacks, Free CD
There is no admission charge for the show, but the Champagne Bar will be open as a cash bar. I am laying on some FREE snacks for the early birds who arrive first. Of course For Your Or Someone Like You will be on sale on the night and, as a special incentive, I will be giving everyone who buys a book and gets it signed by me a free copy of the music CD that was recorded from the poems.
The CD was the root of the idea for these performances. I also decided to add value to the book by recording an album with it. I gave the poems to a selection of musicians and those ten tracks are on the album. There are some very interesting songs that have resulted from the process. It was this that gave me the idea to start to perform the book as a music and story-telling show.
This is going to be a fun and different, interactive literary night out with Skoobs. If you haven’t already visited this amazing book store, then this is your big chance!
