Back In The Big Jozi Smoke

So, it’s over, my big training contract is complete and I am back in Johannesburg. As part of my celebrations, I am playing a gig on Thursday night with my old mate Jay Bones!

It’s the 50th Amuse Sessions gig at Amuse Cafe in 5th Street Linden and I am really looking forward to it. Firstly I get to play with Jay for the first time as a solo artist. I have been a big fan of Fuzi since I played their first demo on Barney Simon’s show in 1996 as part of the SA Music Explosion!

The third person on our line-up is a more recent friend, but a person who’s music and reputation preceded him into my life. Jon-Pat Myers is a sculptor and musician. In the late 80’s I used to head on down to the Thunderdome whenever they had their big alternative gigs and totally rock out to his band Toxik Sox. On Thursday he’ll be doing some more laid-back guitar and vocals only stuff.

As usual with Amuse its only R25.00 to get in, doors open at 7 and we kick off early. Jon Pat will be on at around 8, me about 45 mins to an hour later and then Bones just shy of ten pm. So get there early.

Of course, I will have copies of my poetry book on sale, Jon-Pat will have demo CD’s and limited editions sketches from his sculpture work and of course Bones will have his albums there as well. You’ve just been paid, come along and give us some of your money! hehehe!

On my way back from Bloem I bumped in my old mate Gavin Harrison, Arno Cartsens’ sound engineer, in the Bloem airport. Seems I bump into plenty of people in airports. Haven’t actually seen Gav for over a year, so it was a cool coincidence.

There are about 5 working weeks of the year left effectively and now that I am back in JHB, it’s time to turn on the heat for that last work burn before the holidays! So I am also taking bookings for consultations and trying to do some more gigs, so watch this space for more details!
