I am in Cape Town today and tomorrow for one purpose only: to be a part of the 2013 edition of the Cape Town Electronic Music Conference

Before those of you who know me die laughing at the thought of me speaking about electronic music, let me reassure you that I will be discussing the business issues not the finer points of dub step versus underground deep house!

The first CTEMF took place in March 2012 when a selection of Cape Town’s electronic music scene come together in celebration of its existence. Through a series of development workshops, Satellite events and a core 3 day festival the process of presenting an annual look into the multi facets of South Africa’s electronic music scene had begun.

Now one year on, the CTEMF proudly reopens it window onto the ever-growing world of South Africa’s electronic music scene.

They also host a workshop programme which is where I come in!

Tuesday 12 Feb – Thursday 14 Feb
Without the pyramid of industry that exists behind every successful artist there would be no artist for us to engage with. Without these structures in some form many of the artist you know of today would have never left their bedrooms.

It is the efforts of this industry that supports the creative arts and in particular electronic music, and allows an artist to pursue their calling as a serious career

We team up again with Red Bull Studio to present the workshop component of CTEMF. Once again a collection of various esteemed Role Players will take part in lectures, panel discussion and workshops. They will dive into what it takes to become a successful artist in today’s market as well as the various aspects that make up the industry of electronic music.

The goal is to reveal some of the mechanics that go into forging a career in electronic music on and off the stage.
The Programme:
Tuesday 12 Feb – Thursday 14 Feb
The Deep End is an addition to the CTEMF Open End, geared at taking the workshop experience to a personal exchange. 4 up and coming Electronic Music producer / artists will get the chance to interact and take direction from two of South Africa’s pioneering and currently relative legends.
Take a look at the sessions on the website: http://www.ctemf.com and if you are interested in attending, please send an e-mail to studio@za.redbull  describing:
a) Who you are and what kind of music you’re making.
b) What you think you could get out of the workshop you are interested in attending.
There are specific entry requirements for each workshop so please read carefully and please do not apply if you do not meet these.

Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s sessions will be taking place at the Red Bull Studio Cape Town at the Planet Art Building, 32 Jamieson Street, Cape Town CBD. Space is limited and the Studio will be open an hour before the sessions start each day, so make sure to come through early
