One of the weird things about teaching, training or sharing info to help other people is that, most often, you can’t really help yourself in the same way.
This realisation is what was behind me seeking out someone to help me figure out what to do with my business in 2018. In 2013, John Caswell said to me in London that the problem with me as a business prospect was not that I didn’t offer enough, but that I in fact offered too much… it was too hard for people to get a handle on what I was all about.
That remark stayed with me for 5 years. At first, I was resistant, insisting that all I was, was what it was all about, nothing could be omitted. But that was far from true and the last couple of year’s experiences here in Amsterdam have taught me that.
There are too many handles to the teapot and it is just plain confusing.
Enter stage left, via a casual conversation on Twitter, Beth Farris. Beth is an American living in Amsterdam with more than 20-year’s experience in marketing. We met for coffee to just shoot the breeze mainly. It was only later that the penny dropped.
I asked Beth for a proposal to help me sort through my offerings and get some focus and clarity so that I could stop firing energy off in all directions and finally start putting all my considerable energy and resources behind one thing.
The price was right, what she said in the proposal was right and I just had a good feeling.
A month later I am ready to launch into what I anticipate will be the most exciting chapter in my career so far. Which, after being a rock n roll journalist, radio broadcaster, musician, poet, author, trainer and key note speaker means its going to be pretty wild.
