In today’s fast paced world, a love of actual physical books is becoming an idea that borders on that of religion: Something that needs to be pursued, have time dedicated to it and something that many just prefer not to think about.

Coming from South Africa, where books are rapidly becoming a dying breed it seems, with independent book stores closing, the big chains diversifying into e-readers, greeting cards and this months top ten best-sellers, it is amazing to see how many book stores thrive in The Netherlands.

My latest surprise came in Maastricht where we visited this church:

The shop plays host to readings, book launches, lessons, study groups and more.... a truly integrated response to the changing book world.
